1902 and 1903 Ralph Waldo Emerson Essays books, First and Second Series with lovely JM Dent green leather and gold gilt covers with an owl.
The first series includes essays on history, self-reliance, compensation, spiritual laws, love, friendship, prudence, heroism, the over-soul, circles, intellect, and art; and the second series includes essays on the poet, experience, character, manners, gifts, nature, politics, nominalist and realist, and New England Reformers.
The covers, spines, and pages on both volumes have wear and discoloration due to age, but overall these books are still in good condition. Books are pocket-sized and each measure about 6" x 3.75".
