Antique The House of the Seven Gables book by Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of The Scarlet Letter. This edition has a beautiful brown, purple, gold, and green cover and spine with a wreath, flowers, and a woman wearing a floral crown. There are also beautiful black and white etchings throughout.
This novel follows a New England family and their ancestral home. The setting for the book was inspired by the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion, a gabled house in Salem, Massachusetts, belonging to Hawthorne's cousin Susanna Ingersoll, as well as ancestors of Hawthorne who had played a part in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692.
There is no publish date in this book, but there is an inscription from Dec 25, 1918. There is wear and discoloration/fading on the cover, spine, and pages due to age, fraying of the spine, and the frontispiece is detached (as pictured). Book measures about 7.5" x 5" x 1. Please note that photos may appear brighter than actual book.
