Rare antique Emerson's Essays First Series book by Ralph Waldo Emerson. This is a beautiful ornate Henry Altemus edition in a dark maroon/burgandy color with gold and greenish accents (photo appears brighter than actual book).
The first series includes essays on history, self-reliance, compensation, spiritual laws, love, friendship, prudence, heroism, the over-soul, circles, intellect, and art.
There are no publish dates, but these books were likely published in the late 1800's or early 1900s. Please note that there is a section of pages in the First Series that is detached, and the covers, spines, and pages have wear and discoloration due to age. The book measures about 6.25" x 4.2".
