From the amazing poet, R. Clift, comes this poem memorializing those killed by ICE and giving hope and strength to ourselves and our neighbors holding tight to one another.
The poem reads:
it’s the middle of winter, but ice is
melting
not from (gun)fire– but from the clasped palms
of neighbors holding on tighter to each other
as they march the frozen streets
ice is breaking under feet, under pressure,
under the eyes of a nation that refuses
to choke down lie after lie after lie
ice is shattering as we speak – you can hear
the cracks behind the (cowards) masks and
the desperation behind the (unholy)
(untenable) (unlawful) actions
this is a new kind of global warming i welcome
with open arms– a kind that means a (reckoning)
rage burning within each of us– of hands held
across every state line– until the heat of our
resistance changes this world
for the better
forever
for Good
This poem pairs beautifully with this poppies sketch by R. Clift which you could put in a double-frame.
The words are printed in a typewriter font on handmade cotton rag paper with deckle edges. The color of the paper is a natural, unbleached white but may occasionally have tiny speckles of random color from other fibers mixed in. Size varies slightly because of the imperfect nature of handmade paper, but will be roughly 5" x 7", 8" x 10", or 11" x 14" based on your selection.
