Antique The House of the Seven Gables book by Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of The Scarlet Letter. This edition has a stunning blue and gold Henry Altemus decorative cover with an image of a house and field and a gold gilt flower on the spine. There are also beautiful black and white illustrations throughout.
This novel follows a New England family and their ancestral home. The setting for the book was inspired by the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion, a gabled house in Salem, Massachusetts, belonging to Hawthorne's cousin Susanna Ingersoll, as well as ancestors of Hawthorne who had played a part in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692.
There is no publish date in this book, but it was likely published in the late 1800s or early 1900s. There is wear/bumping and discoloration on the cover, spine, and pages due to age. Book measures about 6.5" x 4.25" x 1.25". Please note that photos may appear brighter than actual book.
