Rare antique Essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson books

Pair of rare antique Emerson's Essays First and Second Series books by Ralph Waldo Emerson. These are gorgeous Henry Altemus editions with a blue, gold, and brown floral design.

The first series includes essays on history, self-reliance, compensation, spiritual laws, love, friendship, prudence, heroism, the over-soul, circles, intellect, and art; and the second series includes essays on the poet, experience, character, manners, gifts, nature, politics, nominalist and realist, and lecture at armory hall.

There are no publish dates, but these books were likely published in the late 1800s or early 1900s. The covers, spines, and pages on both volumes have wear and discoloration/fading due to age, but overall these books are still in really good condition. Books measure about 6.25" x 4.25".
